Introduction

Introduction

The FACULTY of Arts & Media has nine (9) Departments:

  1. Journalism

The programme is developed to provide student with practical and theoretical skills of journalistic practice and journalistic ethics. The course content covers the attempt to provide skills and intellectual journalistic knowledge to interested persons that are concerned with global issues and in the work of collecting and writing news, stories for newspapers, magazines, radio or television.

  1. Public Speaking

Having realized the need for the young-adult, men and women to develop their confidence in speaking in public places, DI has designed a curriculum internationally tailored to enable students develop public speaking skills both in ministry and secular exigencies.

English Language – Because of DI’s multifaceted approach to learning, it has designed a curriculum through which the FACULTY aims at broadening student’s horizons and enhancing their intellectual understanding of the use of English Language thereby equipping them with the necessary knowledge and communicating skills needed for effective communication in ministry place, market place and public place.
  4. Philosophy: The Department of Philosophy seeks to prepare students for thoughtful, Christian engagement in the 21st century world through an extensive range of classes. The department offers foundational courses in philosophy, which support the general education core curriculum and enable students to understand the concepts and methods important to philosophical discourse and thinking. By emphasizing the importance of intellectual and spiritual growth, the department strives to equip all students, majors and non-majors, to be able to live and express Biblical truth effectively in our postmodern world.

INTRODUCTION

The FACULTY of leadership has the primary mission of building skills and imparting practical leadership knowledge into the life of young-adults, men and women at various academic levels, through DI’s state of the art learning programmes. It is our view that leadership and administration in ministry place, market place, and public place requires a sound foundation.

Inherent to a leader’s success is personal development, relating well with people, effectiveness and development in areas of one’s call. The department aims at providing students with pedagogic knowledge, base upon which to build the competencies needed in ministry and secular endeavours.

In achieving this feat, the FACULTY has taken off with various programmes at the Bachelors, Masters (M. A) and Doctorate degree levels. These programmes are as indicated hereunder:

  1. Human Resource Development

The department of Human Resource Development is designed to develop the   desire, initiative, resourcefulness, and persistence required for new and innovative methods in human resource development and corporate planning, this department will provide students with a breadth of knowledge across the field of human resource development and corporate planning and will allow them to pursue in-depth research in areas of paramount concern, blending theoretical foundations with new and innovative methods. Within limits, students may tailor course deliverables to their individual goals, strategic outcomes, and dissertation research.

FACULTY OF SOCIAL & MANAGEMENT SCIENCES {FSMA}

This programme is designed to enable students to apply sound social and management principles in their various professional activities either in ministry or secular sector of the economy.

The student of Social and Management Sciences will gain an introductory knowledge of social and management principles. The students after completion of this course will be able to explain and apply these principles in organizational situations.

The Bachelor, Masters (M.A) and Doctoral levels students during their courses will be guided in analysis, synthesis and evaluation of social and management principles.

The student in the FACULTY of Social and Management Sciences will discover relationships, translate understanding of leadership and administration principles and procedures into new forms, interpret and use them in practical ways.

The department of Counseling prepares graduates from a Christian worldview, while adhering to the highest standards of each discipline. Our professional programs prepare graduates in a distinctly Christian manner while meeting accreditation, certification and educational requirements for licensure. These programmes are designed for individuals to take their knowledge into every corner of the world in order to assist people in the prevention and resolution of the problems of human living. A strong emphasis is placed on the restoration of relationships: individual to God, individual to individual and restoration within the family, the church and the community. It is our goal that individual who graduate from our programmes will be exemplary, reflecting the character of Christ within their personal and professional lives.

  • PEACE STUDIES

Peace Studies is an interdisciplinary field. Interdisciplinary perspective arose from a perceived failure of traditional disciplines to adequately address the problems of war and violence.

  1. CRIMINOLOGY & SECURITY STUDIES

The programme is an attempt to provide skills and intellectual knowledge to middle cadre staff in the military, Para-military, the police and other security outfits (interested civilians inclusive). Criminology and Security Studies focuses on grand strategy and managing security threats. The current state of global conflict has challenged Security Studies to reconsider its state in understanding security.

  1. CONFLICT RESOLUTION

This programme is designed for those who will like to specialize in Conflict Resolution. It has a global focus in the resolution of conflicts. It explores abstractions, theoretical frameworks and case studies in achieving this objective. Conflict resolution emphasizes the need to reach settlement of dispute and improve the relationship between the parties.

As a result, DI has designed a curriculum which emphasizes teaching students’ analytical skills necessary for conflict analysis in addition to skill such as negotiation and mediation for effective third party intervention.

  1. CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

The department of Conflict Management of DI will often be in related social sciences and humanities area such as political science, sociology, literature, history, and philosophy. Peace Studies can have an applied component, but is usually based in a liberal art context and thus is more theoretical.

  • COMMUNITY SOCIAL WORK

This course is offered both at Diploma, Bachelors (B.A.), Master’s and Doctoral degree levels.

  • PSYCHOLOGY

This course indicates our aspiration to be both ―academically excellent and ―distinctively Christian. We believe that these goals are synergistic. Our aim is produce leaders in psychology who can provide effective services to their clients in a manner richly informed by the best of the academic traditions in these fields and the Christian faith. Our focus has been on preparing professionals and paraprofessionals for practice oriented careers in wide variety settings. Many of our graduates have developed careers in explicitly Christian practices contexts. Many others work in the spectrum of secular mental health contexts such as private practice, FACULTY services, medical settings, or military clinics. All are trained to integrate faith and practice in sophisticated and ethical ways regardless of their practice settings. Our academic community consists of faculty, staff and students who share a commitment to provide a redemptive impact on the world their careers.

    FACULTY OF EDUCATION {FEDU}
    INTRODUCTION

    The issue of quality education is a growing concern in today’s culture. The Bible and professional literature agree on one key solution: teachers, administrators, scholars, policy-makers and support personnel who are excellent leaders. A higher caliber of leader than ever before is needed to meet the kaleidoscope of challenges in public and private FACULTYs from the classroom to the policy level. The DOXA Institute FACULTY of Education offers bachelors, Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), master’s specialist and doctoral programs to develop such leaders.

    DOXA students learn how to integrate research-supported concepts and skills with a biblical worldview. Thus, DOXA graduates are prepared to make a difference by bringing academic excellence, moral character and standards of learning into our educational systems.

    This department offers courses leading to award of Bachelors (B.A), Masters (M.A), and Doctorate degrees.

    These studies encompass both men and women sensing the need for theological training in order to reach out to other women and more effectively, build up the body of Christ. DI provides a programme to train men and women in ministry leadership that is designed to meet the specific needs of planning, leading, and administering women’s ministry programmes.

    DI’s goal is to develop faithful Christian students who can nurture, teach, and lead other women believers and serves as God’s witnesses in our multi-cultural and increasing secular society. The women Studies’ concentration focuses on the study of scripture, counseling, pastoral ministry, leadership and the appreciation of knowledge.

    FACULTY OF MEDICAL STUDIES {FMED}

    INTRODUCTION

    DOXA Institute’s FACULTY of MEDICAL programme is founded on a Christian worldview and designed to prepare competent women and men to provide expert clinical care and related health care services and programmes to individuals, families, and people groups across the lifespan in a variety of acute care and community settings. Graduates are prepared to practice as clinical nurse specialists with the critical thinking skills and knowledge needed to promote the profession of nursing through clinical practice, teaching, research, programme development and implementation, and scholarship.

    INTRODUCTION

    DOXA Institute’s FACULTY of Law exists to equip future leaders in law with a superior legal education in fidelity to the Christian faith expressed through the Holy Scriptures.
